CHICAGOThe Journal of the American Academy of Audiology announced its Editor’s Awards during AudiologyNOW! 2011, held here in April. The honors, which recognize members of the JAAA editorial board for outstanding contributions to the peer review of the journal, went to Holly Hosford-Dunn, PhD, and David A. Preves, PhD.

Preves, who in 2009 received AAA’s Samuel F. Lybarger Award for Achievements in Industry, is one of the hearing industry’s most prominent engineers and inventors. He is a DSP research engineer at Starkey Laboratories.

Hosford-Dunn, a private-practice audiologist in Tucson and a former member of the AAA board of directors, is editor of this blog, hearinghealthmatters.org.

There was a certain symmetry to her selection for the JAAA honor. She received the Editor’s Award in 1996 when James Jerger, PhD, first presented it. And her award this year will be the last on Jerger’s watch. He has announced that he will retire as editor of the publication at the end of the year.  Jerger, the founder and first president of AAA,  has been editor of its journal since it began in 1989.
