Design Thinking Takes Center Stage at AuDacity 2020

Design thinking is a concept with roots in computer science and cooperative design, relying heavily on input from end users, observation and other need-finding behaviors, brainstorming, and rapid prototyping to solve problems.

More recently, design thinking has been adopted by leading health care institutions like the Mayo Clinic which opened its Center for Innovation “to transform the experience and delivery of health care with a patient-centered focus.”

From the waiting room to the recovery room, every aspect of the patient experience can be assessed, questioned, and reconfigured using Design thinking and its human-centered approach.

HHTM contributors Amyn Amlani, Ph.D., Kate Baldocchi, Au.D., and Trisha Milnes, Au.D., introduced the concept of design thinking to readers over the past year. On October 16-17, 2020, the Academy of Doctors of Audiology, with the help of volunteers including Amlani and Baldocchi, will bring design thinking to center stage at AuDacity 2020.

The AuDacity program features two of the most recognized experts in the application of design thinking in health care, Bon Ku, M.D. and Jose Colucci, Ph.D., as well as a cadre of audiologist presenters who will demonstrate specific examples of how they are using design thinking to elevate their practices and improve patient experiences.

AuDacity’s virtual venue promises genuine interactivity that will allow more engagement between attendees and exhibitors than many online conferences offer, including the ability to chat and teleconference.

AuDacity 2020: Three Organizations, Two Hemispheres – One Agenda

One of the benefits of building a virtual program is the ability to collaborate on a global scale. The AuDacity 2020 program was organized collaboratively by the Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA), the Independent Audiologists Australia (IAA), and the Independent Audiologists New Zealand (IANZ). Building more than 40 hours of programming, developed by three organizations across two hemispheres, all on one agenda, sounds like design thinking at its best.

The AuDacity 2020: Forge Ahead & Forge Ahead Down Under exemplifies the creativity and resilience needed to succeed in 2020 and beyond.
