A 15-year-old from Nebraska with cochlear implants and diagnosed at birth with hearing loss due to TMPRSS3 recently created a web resource devoted to TMPRSS3, the fifth most common gene causally associated with deafness.

For her efforts, Lily received the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout can receive. Her website, https://www.tmprss3.org, aims to help people with connections to TMPRSS3 understand the gene, find resources, expand their knowledge, and make connections with other affected by the condition.

“I specifically want to make this resource available for people with TMPRSS3, parents of kids with TMPRSS3, researchers, and anyone else curious about this gene and its effects. The more we learn about TMPRSS3, the more we can help others.”

Variants of TMPRSS3 are the most common hearing loss gene in adults undergoing traditional and hybrid cochlear implantation.
