3-D Labyrinthine Computerized Tomography Tracks Human Dispersal Across the Globe

Robert Traynor
Little do audiologists know that based upon a 2018 study, the labyrinth can now be used by paleontologists to trace the movement of humans across the globe thousands of years ago.    There are two theories about how humans populated the world.  The Multi-regional hypotheses, first proposed in the 1980s and revised in 2003, suggests that erectus left Africa some

Marion Downs: Still influencing Newborn Hearing Screening

Robert Traynor
Most audiologists know Dr. Marion Downs and her contributions to the field of audiology, especially in pediatric audiology.  At the time of her passing at age 100 in 2014, 97% of all babies born in the United States were screened for hearing.  Some of us were her students, others were collaborative researchers, but all of us were admirers of a great

Tinnitus Treatment with Smartphones

Robert Traynor
This discussion should be prefaced with the statement that I have no actual research to make the suggestion that will appear here, but it is a great doctoral dissertation.  This week at Hearing International will discuss the use of smart phones to treat tinnitus.   Smart phones have totally taken over our lives for many things, family communication, email, messages,

Hitler’s Hearing Loss – From War Trenches to Failed Assassination Attempt

Robert Traynor
This series of posts at looks at Hitler’s hearing impairment.  It is certainly not a tribute, but an interesting discussion of a hearing loss that was accumulated over a lifetime by an historical figure. This series is a re-visit of a topic that was first discussed at Hearing International August 27-September 10, 2013. While much of the content will be
