It’s time for the annual look at what’s in the stars for people with hearing loss. Because astrology isn’t my ‘thing’ – as in I don’t believe in it – I searched the internet for the connection between astrology and hearing loss. I found this:
The ear, as a region of nose, throat and ear, falls under Taurus and, therefore, Venus’ influence as an organ. But ‘hearing’ is one of the five senses ruled by Mercury, especially the eardrum, although the ear’s bone structure is ruled by Saturn, as is any ‘blockage’ that impairs hearing. The labyrinth of the ear is through Neptune, with Mars undertones for infections. Saturn is connected to the right ear and Mars to the left ear.
I hope you found this information helpful, although after reading it, my ears are very confused. Moving on….
Gemini, May 21- June 19: You love the spoken word – good communication means everything to you. What doesn’t matter to you are timelines, but there’s a pressing matter you can’t ignore – your hearing loss. Research is hinting that hearing may be a ‘use it or lose it’ kind of deal. Using hearing assistive technology will help keep your brain stimulated and connected. Gemini, you’re a restless, curious being, so nail your feet to the floor and find out what technology can do for you.
Cancer, June 21 – July 22: You may offer a good shoulder to cry on, but your family says you’re over-sensitive to suggestions. Don’t get your back up, because they’re right – you do get defensive when they point out when you’ve misheard something. Of course it was insensitive of them to tell you to listen harder, but it’s difficult for ‘hearing’ people to understand what you’re going through. But the next time they need help, tell them to forget the shoulder routine; they need to face you, so you can see their lips.
Leo, July 23-August 22: Woman or man, you be the queen-king of the jungle! Now with that ego-stroking out of the way, here’s how you can show your leadership. Stand up for what is right for people with hearing loss in your community. Lead the charge for accessibility in health settings and other public places. Create awareness and demand for captioning, looping and affordable technology. Let out a roar and Go, Leo, Go!
Virgo, August 23 – September 22: You don’t like crowds, preferring to socialize one on one. Most astrologers put this down to your analytical, perfectionist nature. But a Virgo with hearing loss doesn’t do large groups for two good reasons – the noise and too many faces to speechread. Trying to follow the conversation in a crowd is too frustrating for your meticulous nature. But be aware that hearing loss is isolating enough without letting your shyness cut you off from people and life!
Libra, September 23 – October 22: You just want to be happy, isn’t that right, Libra? And what makes you happy is thinking things through, on your own schedule. Should you stay with hearing aids or get assessed for a cochlear implant? Wait till the next best thing comes along before spending the money, or plug your nose and jump in with both ears now? For heaven sakes, Libra, you’re a great listener – ask people you trust and other people with hearing loss for some advice. Then, just do it!
Scorpio, Oct 23 – Nov 21: You’ve had a bum rap, Scorpio. People think you are aloof, but the truth is you may have hearing loss. You look someone in the eye without blinking so people assume you’re following what’s being said, when in fact you may not. But hearing loss is a challenge and you like to face obstacles head on. You’ve transformed your life more than once before so maybe it’s time to do it again – adapt to your hearing loss and move on.
Sagittarius, Nov 22 – Dec 21: You are just so darn confident and perky and truth-seeking that you don’t usually try to hide your hearing loss. And you don’t want anyone else to hide behind their communication challenges, either. You have a way of outing hard of hearing people in a way that makes them feel liberated – it’s always a relief to discover we’re not alone in our challenges. After a while, though, you may want to stop yammering on about hearing aids so much….
Capricorn, Dec 22 – Jan 19: Although you may accept and do something about your hearing loss sooner than most people, the cost of hearing aids is a sore point with you. You like to know where your money is going – to know that you’re getting good value. Because of this, your hearing care professional winces when she sees your name on her appointment list because she knows you’re going to tell it like you see it. But you’re also her star client, because you take such good care of your hearing aids.
Aquarius, Jan 20 – Feb 18: You like to be considered unique – and you are. Your leopard-spot hearing aids make jaws drop and your ears sing! Because you care about social issues and their related organizations, check out a consumer hearing-related organization in your area and country. There’s HLAA in the US, CHHA in Canada, and Action on Hearing Loss in the UK. The International Federation of Hard of Hearing People (IFHOH) has 45 member groups in 30 countries, so find yours.
Pisces, Feb 19-March 20: You’re emotional, hyper-sensitive and you want problems to take care of themselves, so it’s natural that a Pisces with hearing loss might struggle in conversations. Because you react to what you think you heard (I know, doesn’t everybody?), this can cause issues when you mis-hear something. Remember the mantra of hearing loss – Verify & Clarify – and then shed those scales of shame, because almost a quarter of our population has some degree of hearing challenges.
Aries, March 21-April 19: Today is your lucky day. So even if your hearing aid or CI batteries are not fully charged, chances are they won’t die during a crucial conversation. But since tomorrow is another day, make sure your assistive technology is clean, dry, and functioning well – why risk communication breakdown in the middle of something important?
Taurus, April 20-May 20: You like the finer things in life and you like to take it easy. At first glance, your hearing loss could interfere with these goals – until you learn how to use simple strategies to make communication flow easily. Light up the room, turn down the noise. Explore the world of technology and let it connect you to music, conversation and your job. Everyone wants you as a friend and to know that you’re hearing them.

The unreferenced published paragraph is from a post of mine on the medical section of an astrological forum in 2006!!
I found your comments regarding same most detrimental, especially as you do not appear to have any astrological learning, especially of its medical health branch, to have any understanding of what is implied.
No wonder your ears were confused.
