Everybody loves a good story. And we all have a story to tell – our lives, our ‘issues’, our views. But we don’t always have a place to tell it.
People with hearing loss are often hesitant to talk about how their hearing loss makes them feel, or perhaps our friends and family have heard the frustration in our voices far too often and they tune us out.
On HearingHealthMatters.org (HHTM), in the Better Hearing Consumer section, I’ve been fortunate to have a platform where many of those stories can be told. This article marks my 6th anniversary of writing weekly articles (yes, that is a lot of articles!) and during that time, I’ve invited many guest writers to offer their story to the world. And whether it’s my article or those of my guests, somebody reading it somewhere in the world, draws strength and inspiration.
Last week, we read about Hatem Ahmed and his determination to become a dentist and there are many more.
If you’ve missed these stories, I encourage you to look back through the Better Hearing Consumer and read some of the interesting articles on many different aspects of the life with hearing loss. On this web page, type in some key phrases in the search box – like ‘cochlear implant’, ‘living with hearing loss’, ‘communication strategies’, or ‘working with hearing loss’. The search will bring up articles that you might like to read. Drawn randomly from the past six years, here are a few to get you started.
The first one is an article by Lauren Sherwood that has the honor of being the most-read blog ever on HHTM, with upwards of 88,000 reads.
