It’s As If  You Had Your Own Personal …

Fill in the blank for whatever, whenever and however you wish to personalize sound in your ears. Nura Holdings’ aptly-named patent 10708680 (Personalization of auditory stimulus) envisions user(s) perceiv(ing) the audio signal as if the user had ideal hearing and/or desired hearing.

No longer does the concept of desired hearing limit you to real sounds in your near vicinity. RevX Technologies’ patent 10715903 (System and method for configuring audio signals to compensate for acoustic changes of the ear) imagines you’re going to desire streamed content that sounds as if you’re there–not just getting a digitized, homogenized after-the-fact version.  It’s as if  your own personal sound engineer will be doing the mixing to give you a concert hall effect, get you better seats or … whatever you desire.

And leave it to Bragi to conceive a Hearing aid with added functionality (patent #0708699) to improve your workout, as if you had your own personal gym trainer.

Not that long ago, Augmented Reality was a gaming phenomenon, far apart from what audiologists and many others think of as improved hearing. The as if examples above are only a few of many demonstrating how our thinking is shifting away from a passively perceived, shared world to an augmented, individualized world of actively shaped perception.
