ST. PAUL, MN–Bill Clinton, Marlee Matlin, Doug Pitt and Randy Hogan will be honored at the Starkey Hearing Foundation’s 2011 So The World May Hear Awards Gala. The annual event will be held July 24 at the St. Paul River Centre.
Each year, the Gala recognizes those who have made a commitment to helping others and to making a positive change in the world. The Starkey Hearing Foundation joins forces with outstanding achievers from many walks of life alike to raise awareness of its efforts to deliver the gift of hearing to those in need around the world.
Featured performers at So the World May Hear will include Reba, Meat Loaf, Libera, and Miley Cyrus, along with two surprise performances.
Additional celebrities currently scheduled to attend include Patricia Arquette, Hilary Swank, Whoopi Goldberg, Maria Bello, Verne Troyer, Buzz Aldrin, Kevin Sorbo, Gary Busey, Kevin Costner, Phil Hellmuth, Larry Fitzgerald, Santonio Holmes, Roy Williams and many more.
Last year’s gala raised $7 million for Starkey Hearing Foundation, every dollar of which contributed to helping change the lives of people around the world.
The foundation organizes hearing missions in countries stretching from the U.S. to Vietnam. Since 2000, it has supplied more than 500,000 hearing aids to people in need, and its goal is to distribute over 1 million free hearing aids in this decade.
In addition to giving the gift of hearing, the foundation promotes safe hearing through two programs: the recently launched Listen Carefully campaign, aimed at preventing hearing loss among teens and young people; and the Sound Matters program, which, with the help of partners such as Best Buy, the Grammy Foundation and others within the music and entertainment industry, seeks to raise social awareness of healthy hearing, prevention of hearing damage, and regular hearing check-ups.
