LIVONIA, MI—The International Hearing Society (IHS) has a new face in the nation’s capital. She is Alissa Parady, the organization’s recently named government affairs manager. Because she operates out of Washington, Parady will be positioned to enhance IHS’s relations with DC-based consumer, industry, and government organizations.
In announcing this addition to IHS’s government affairs program, Alan Lowell, BC-HIS, ACA, the president, noted, “We have some difficult topics to address in the near future, such as Internet/over-the-counter hearing aid sales, joint licensing boards, and sales tax on hearing aids.
Parady came to IHS from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, where she was senior manager, state legislative affairs. A graduate of the University of Connecticut, she has also been government affairs representative at Yale New Haven Hospital and was a legislative aide in the Connecticut General Assembly.
IHS, the primary organization for hearing instrument specialists, has long been represented in Washington, DC, by the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery, LLP, specifically by Tim Waters and then by Karen Sealander.
In the 1990s, IHS had a presence in Washington where James Lovell, its director of governmental relations, was based. However, after his tragic death at a young age, the office closed.
