WARRENVILLE, IL–Linda Thibodeau, PhD, a University of Texas at Dallas audiology professor who has devoted much of her career to (re)habilitation of children and adults with hearing loss, received the 2011 Cheryl DeConde Johnson Award for Outstanding Achievement in Educational and Pediatric Audiology. The award is presented annually by Phonak LLC.
Cheryl DeConde Johnson, EdD, the honorary chairperson of the award selection committee, said, “Dr. Thibodeau exemplifies the marriage of service, research, and teaching. She has made significant contributions to hearing aid and FM research, particularly as it pertains to school-age children. Her service to the profession over the past two decades truly exemplifies the spirit of the award.”
Thibodeau serves on the board of the Academy of Rehabilitative Audiology and is a member of a working group for ANSI standards for measuring FM system benefit. She has conducted many workshops on FM verification and other topics related to hearing assistive technology (HAT) at national and state meetings. She has also written numerous articles and textbook chapters in speech perception, amplification, and HAT.
She instituted the Pediatric Habilitation Specialty at UT-Dallas, which offers audiology and speech-language pathology students enhanced opportunities to gain expertise in the evaluation and management issues for children with hearing loss.
Phonak introduced the award in 2007 and named it after its first recipient, Cheryl DeConde Johnson, a renowned educational audiologist and deaf educator. For 15 years, she successfully directed the audiology and deaf education programs for the state of Colorado.
