California Dispensing Business Under Fire

CHICO, CALIFORNIA — McDonald Hearing Aid Centers of northern California is under scrutiny by the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs. According to a November 19th report on NBC affiliate KNVN in the Chico/Redding market, the hearing aid center, which has 19 locations in northern California, is accused of pressuring elderly patients into more expensive hearing aids than were needed and altering test results as part of bait & switch business strategy.

dptcsmrAmong the allegations highlighted in a 52-page document filed by a state licensing board official against McDonald Hearing Aid Center–one of the largest hearing aid retailers in the Sacramento area– is suspicion of being in violation of the  state’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act which entitles customers to a 30 day money back guarantee.

Ongoing Investigation

McDonald Hearing Aid Center, according to its website, is a third generation family owned and operated business that has been in existence for more than 70 years. It is important to note that the center has not been found guilty of any charges and still  has yet to have a hearing regarding the allegations by the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board.

The California Department of Consumer Affairs is still continuing to investigate the accusations.
