Soundly, a leading hearing-health consumer education site, announced today the launch of its new and innovative feature, Ask Soundly, which integrates with ChatGPT to provide hearing aid wearers with a user-friendly tool aimed at trouble-shooting and shopping assistance. The beta test for Ask Soundly will begin on Tuesday, May 2.

With Ask Soundly, consumers can now ask hearing aid specific and technical questions and receive accurate responses in natural language. The assistant is trained on a wide array of technical hearing device documentation and audiologist-vetted consumer resources, offering consumers a more reputable and detailed alternative to what ChatGPT offers directly.

Soundly’s team including Lead Audiologist, Dr. Amy Sarow, and technical partners at Hunt Gather developed Ask Soundly with consumer experience and accuracy in mind. The ChatGPT algorithm specifically references Soundly’s content library, significantly decreasing the chances of AI hallucinations. Restricted controls are in place to stop chats unrelated to the information on the Soundly website, and searches are anonymized before reaching the GPT-4. Soundly will also include disclosures and instructions to consumers to prevent sharing sensitive information.

Giving Consumers the Ability to Research and Troubleshoot in New Ways

Ask Soundly is trained with a wide array of technical information around specific hearing related topics, giving users the power to troubleshoot and research in meaningfully new ways.

Examples of Ask Soundly’s use-cases include:

  • If a user asks “what are the best invisible hearing aids?” Ask Soundly will provide links to relevant guides and summarize top results.
  • If a user asks “Are OTC hearing aids right for me?”, Ask Soundly will summarize the criteria for OTC candidates and suggest possible alternatives.
  • If a user asks “how can I pair my hearing aids to iPhone?”, Ask Soundly will give step-by-step instructions.

Ask Soundly can also answer general questions like “what are the symptoms of hearing loss?” or “how long does a hearing test usually take?”

Ask Soundly is one of Soundly’s many efforts to help consumers navigate the hearing health market since the final OTC hearing aid ruling was enacted (October 17, 2022).

“We are thrilled to launch Ask Soundly and bring this innovative tool to our users,” said Dr. Amy Sarow, Lead Audiologist at Soundly. “Our goal is to make it easier for consumers to access accurate and reliable information about their hearing aids, and Ask Soundly is a meaningful step towards achieving that.”

“Soundly’s goal is to make hearing health more accessible to consumers. We believe that modern technology, like Ask Soundly, can simplify and improve the consumer experience. This is important because consumers often struggle to find solutions to their hearing loss. With Ask Soundly, we’ve provided a solution that helps consumers take control of their hearing health journey by providing quick, and hyper-personalized information.”
