Frankfurt/Mainz –– The 67th International Congress of Hearing Aid Acousticians, set to take place in Nuremberg, Germany, from 18 to 20 October 2023, promises an enriching experience with a diverse range of presentations in five different formats.

The congress boasts an extensive knowledge transfer program through a series of engaging formats, including the Knowledge Symposium, featuring 24 expert lectures, five tutorials, a roundtable discussion, and four Future Friday Keynotes.

Knowledge Symposium

The EUHA Knowledge Symposium will kick off on Wednesday morning, 18 Oct, with a thought-provoking lecture by Christoph Schwob, an advisory member of the Swiss audiological commission and a member of the Paediatric Acoustics professional group of the Swiss Federal Social Insurance Office. Schwob will explore the need for specialist shops in the context of hearing aid availability, asking, “Will hearing aids soon be exclusively available online?” Following the symposium, the prestigious EUHA Sponsorship Award and FDHA Awards ceremonies will take place. Dr. Florian Denk from the German Institute of Hearing Aids will then deliver an enlightening lecture titled “Closed, occlusion-free earmoulds? History, findings, and new research.”

Expert Lectures

The congress will feature 24 expert lectures delivered by professionals from Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Belgium, and the United States, delving into a wide array of innovative topics, such as AI integration in hearing systems, assistive listening technology, and an initial assessment of over-the-counter (OTC) devices in the US.

Tutorials

Participants will also have the opportunity to attend tutorials on various subjects, including hearing implant fitting in Switzerland, the use of measurement technology in the fitting process, stress management through mindfulness, and intriguing social media tutorials. Additionally, a tutorial focused on conversations with customers in sign language promises to be equally captivating.

Roundtable Discussion

A highlight of the congress will be the roundtable discussion on Thursday afternoon (19 Oct) titled “Changing hearing aid acoustics: The European perspective on the future of better hearing and intelligibility.” Esteemed international experts from Switzerland, Belgium, and Germany will engage in this enlightening discussion.

Future Friday, 20 Oct, will feature keynote lectures that delve into the forward-looking aspects of hearing aid acoustics. Elisabeth Koert will share insights on the “Optogenetic cochlear implant,” while entrepreneur Bilal Zafar will explore the revolutionary impact of AI in the working environment. Professor Dr. Stefan Launer will address the correlation between hearing aids and quality of life, highlighting the importance of well-being in well-hearing. Furthermore, Dennis Fischer, a writer, coach, and speaker, will offer insights into the “Future work skills in hearing aid acoustics.”
