SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH — Sorenson, a leading provider of communication services for Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities, announced the launch of the Sound Off Project (SOP). This new initiative aims to raise awareness of hearing loss among U.S. military veterans and service members while promoting technology solutions to improve their communication independence.
“We are proud to launch the Sound Off Project. We are dedicated to empowering military service members and veterans who live with hearing loss. This initiative is a call to action, a pledge from Sorenson to advocate for veterans and a commitment to support our veteran communities.”
–Sorenson CEO, Jorge Rodriguez
The name “Sound Off” carries military relevance, symbolizing the act of speaking up strongly. It stems from WWII Army private Willie Lee Duckworth’s marching chant that later became the basis for all modern military cadences.
Sorenson’s Director of Veterans Outreach, Army veteran Dewie Vieira, noted that hearing difficulties can be extremely debilitating for service members. “The Sound Off Project is a much-needed initiative to help raise awareness about hearing loss and provide my fellow veterans with the support and resources they need,” he said.
The Sound Off Project kicked off with a multifaceted digital campaign driving community engagement, education, and visibility around veterans’ hearing health. SOP will also have an on-the-ground presence at several 2024 conventions focused on veterans’ issues and disabilities.
Sorenson already provides innovative communication technology and services tailored for eligible individuals with hearing loss, such as call captioning solutions allowing phone conversations to be read as text captions. Through the Sound Off Project, the company now reaffirms its commitment to ensuring veterans and service members can access these assistive services as needed.
More details about SOP are available at SoundOffProject.com. Sorenson looks forward to further assisting veterans across its inclusive communication platforms.
