CLERMONT, FLORIDA — The team at Citrus Hearing Clinic in Clermont, Florida, recently participated in the Widex Community Giveback Day, a program that donates Widex hearing aids to individuals who may not otherwise be able to afford them. Dr. Teresa Parsons, an audiologist at the clinic, expressed a strong appreciation for Widex and a commitment to giving back to the community, which motivated her involvement in the program.

“I’ve been working with Widex going back to my residency at the University of South Florida and it’s been wonderful to watch the evolution of the technology, particularly in the areas of natural sound and tinnitus management. I also live with a mild hearing loss and bilateral tinnitus myself, which gives me a special appreciation for how life-changing Widex hearing aids can be and helps me relate on a deeper level to the patients I see every day.”

The Widex sales representative for Citrus Hearing Clinic introduced the clinic to the Widex Community Giveback Day, a component of the Partners in Excellence for You program. This initiative allows hearing care professionals to provide a free pair of Widex hearing aids to a local community member in need.

Dr. Parsons noted that the clinic was eager to participate, as it aligns with their mission to improve lives by providing patients with advanced hearing aid technology.

The recipient of the donation was Sierra Janae, a long-time patient of the clinic in her 20s who has otosclerosis, a condition causing progressive hearing loss. Janae had been wearing older Widex hearing aids passed down from a family member, but she was unable to afford an upgrade. Upon learning of the donation, Janae expressed deep gratitude, noting that the opportunity came as she was starting her career and graduating from college.

Dr. Parsons utilized a Sensogram to measure Janae’s hearing thresholds at various frequencies, ensuring a precise fit for the new Widex Moment™ hearing aids. Real Ear Measurements (REM) were also conducted to verify the correct amplification. In addition to the fitting, Dr. Parsons provided Janae with comprehensive education on the features of the Widex app and the maintenance required for optimal performance.

Janae reported an immediate improvement in her hearing experience and successfully tested the new hearing aids in a challenging environment shortly after her appointment. She now wears her Widex Moment hearing aids daily, both at home and at work, and highlighted the benefits of the Zen mode for managing tinnitus while focusing on tasks.

“At the end of the day, you go into audiology to help people – and participating in the Widex Community Giveback Day truly allows us to help those in need. Being able to make a difference and give back to the community is one of the pillars on which we run our practice, and it will continue to be for many more Community Giveback Days to come.”
