SOMERSET, NEW JERSEY – The 2024 Oticon Audiology Summer Camp, held from August 4 – 8 in Park City, Utah, brought together 50 graduate students in audiology from universities across the U.S. Led by an expert team of Oticon audiologists, researchers, and industry veterans, the annual event aims to bridge academic learning with practical professional knowledge through hands-on workshops.
Since its inception over 25 years ago, the curriculum has continually evolved to reflect changes in hearing healthcare, with a consistent focus on helping students transition smoothly into careers in audiology.
“At Oticon, we are committed to the hearing care professional. We actively engage in knowledge sharing within the hearing care profession, providing top-quality training, life-changing technology and support that equips hearing care professionals and their patients to thrive. Through professional development events, like the Oticon Audiology Summer Camp, and access to the knowledge and skills needed to optimize the patient experience, we aim to foster professional growth and success every step of the way.”
–Virginia Ramachandran, Au.D., Ph.D., Head of Audiology for Oticon, Inc.
The week-long event featured general sessions and workshops, covering a range of topics including BrainHearing™ and the cognitive aspects of hearing, the role of connectivity in hearing care, complex fittings, and the special needs of pediatric and veteran populations. Brad Stach, Ph.D., Head of the Division of Audiology at Henry Ford Health, shared an overview of six decades of audiological research, viewed through the perspective of the late James Jerger, Ph.D. Additionally, sessions on career paths provided students with insight into various professional settings, from hospital and private practice to government services and academic research.
For many students, this marked their first professional development event, offering a valuable opportunity to begin building their professional networks.
