LAGUNA HILLS, CALIFORNIA – Bob Swanson, a long-time resident of Laguna Hills, California, has been servicing and repairing over one hundred local pools weekly for the past 50 years. Reflecting on his work, Bob stated, “Communication is very important to me to do my job well. I need to be able to hear what my customers’ needs are. Unfortunately, my genetic hearing loss has made that difficult.”

Bob, along with his family who also experience genetic hearing loss, has been a patient of Ann Mundell-Noel, a local audiologist at Amazing Hearing, for many years. Mundell-Noel described Bob as one of the most hard-working individuals she has ever met, with a remarkable ability to help those around him.

When his sister-in-law required hearing aids she could not afford, Bob prioritized her needs over his own and gathered the necessary funds to assist her. Additionally, he frequently steps in to help local customers with household repairs, often volunteering his time. “As an audiologist and a long-time friend to his family, I want to do whatever I can to give him the quality of life he deserves, despite his profound and progressive hearing loss,” Mundell-Noel shared.

When Mundell-Noel learned about Widex’s Community Giveback Day through her involvement in the Partners in Excellence for You Program, she immediately recognized the opportunity to help Bob. She fitted him with a new pair of Widex MOMENT™ hearing aids, noting, “Widex is my go-to hearing aid brand, and I wanted to leverage the company’s generosity to make a difference in Bob’s life. He truly deserves it.”

New Sound, New Quality of Life

Bob expressed deep gratitude upon learning he was the recipient of the Widex Community Giveback Day donation.

“I was shocked, overwhelmed, and very grateful. Being chosen for a donation is not something that usually happens to me. I didn’t know how to react.”

Mundell-Noel selected the Widex MOMENT hearing aids to address Bob’s hearing challenges, citing their ability to deliver clear and crisp sound. “It’s the ideal solution for Bob’s progressive genetic hearing loss,” she said. “The technology maintains speech clarity, enhancing his ability to comprehend and interact socially.”

The hearing aids were customized with hard ear molds to ensure durability and comfort, especially given Bob’s physically demanding job. “He often works in the sun all day, so water resistance and ease of cleaning were critical priorities,” Mundell-Noel added.

Bob, who has been a patient at Amazing Hearing for decades, found the fitting process seamless. He expressed appreciation for Mundell-Noel’s dedication, saying, “Ann takes satisfaction in making people hear the way they need to with Widex. I can’t say enough about how important Ann is to me. My kids and I love her very much.”

The Widex Upgrade

Since receiving the hearing aids, Bob has noticed significant improvements in sound quality and appreciates additional features such as Bluetooth and TV connectivity. “My previous hearing aids didn’t give me the sharpness or clarity that Widex hearing aids do. It makes it very easy to hear and understand my customers,” he remarked.

Mundell-Noel emphasized the importance of addressing hearing loss, noting, “The brain can’t retain what it doesn’t hear. Widex’s swift sound processing allows the brain more time to absorb information, enriching social interactions and enhancing quality of life. Being able to provide Bob with the gift of Widex sound has been a joy.”
