LYNBROOK, NEW YORK – Since establishing Comprehensive Audiology in Lynbrook, New York, eight years ago, Dr. Esther Fogel has prioritized community outreach, offering free hearing screenings in local libraries and supporting children with language-based disabilities.
When she learned about Widex’s Community Giveback Day through the Partners in Excellence for You Program, she saw an opportunity to further her efforts. “We try our best to involve ourselves in the community and truly get to know our patients on a personal level,” said Dr. Fogel.
One patient who came to mind was Joe, a 21-year-old who has experienced hearing loss since high school. While studying abroad in college, his hearing aids frequently malfunctioned, affecting his ability to participate in daily activities. After returning home, his family faced unexpected medical expenses, making it difficult to afford new devices.
Recognizing the situation, Dr. Fogel sought a solution.
“I initially planned to source donations through a local organization, but thanks to Widex’s support, I was able to fit him with Widex Moment™ hearing aids at no cost. When I informed Joe’s mother, she was overwhelmed with emotion. It was incredibly rewarding to be able to provide him with the tools he needs as he begins his professional journey.”
Finding the Right Fit
Dr. Fogel noted that Widex hearing aids have consistently provided reliable sound quality for her patients. “Widex offers a rich sound quality with minimal distortion,” she explained. “I’ve fit them for patients with standard hearing loss, but also for those with more complex cases, such as musicians and individuals with asymmetry or tinnitus.”
For Joe, the Widex Moment hearing aids were selected for their ability to capture a wide spectrum of sound, an important factor given his young age. “We wanted to ensure he had access to as much sound as possible,” Dr. Fogel said. “These devices offer better sound quality and reliability compared to his previous hearing aids.”
At the fitting, Joe expressed excitement about the improvements in his hearing. “He looked forward to starting his new job with greater confidence, knowing he could assist customers without asking them to repeat themselves,” Dr. Fogel shared. “He also realized how much he had been missing in conversations at school, work, and social gatherings.”
Ensuring Accessible Care
Beyond the technology itself, Dr. Fogel highlighted the responsiveness of the Widex team throughout the process. When Joe’s hearing loss required custom ear molds, a potential delay in shipping was quickly addressed. “I was concerned when they hadn’t arrived the day before the fitting,” she said. “But after reaching out, I was informed they would be hand-delivered in time for the appointment.”
Dr. Fogel emphasized the importance of reliable support when providing hearing care.
“Widex has been very responsive throughout, from hearing aid support to practice resources,” she said. “Their teams—from sales representatives to the audiology and customs departments—have been incredibly helpful.”
Reflecting on the experience, Dr. Fogel was grateful for the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. “At our follow-up appointment, Joe noted significant improvements in his ability to hear at work and in social settings,” she said. “Knowing I could make a real difference in his life is what drives me every day.”
