MONTPELLIER, FRANCE & BOSTON, MASS. Cilcare announced an update to its licensing agreement with Sanofi covering its two lead programs, CIL001 and CIL003. The revised agreement includes improved royalty terms for Cilcare and will make Sanofi a minority shareholder in the company.

Cilcare said the updated agreement reflects the progress and value of its lead programs and represents another step in its strategy of building long-term partnerships with pharmaceutical companies active in hearing therapeutics. The company previously entered into an agreement with Shionogi and recently closed its Series A financing.

Updated Agreement Improves Royalty Terms

Under the revised agreement, Cilcare said it secured substantially improved royalty terms in exchange for granting Sanofi a minority equity stake. The company said the arrangement is intended to provide long-term strategic support for advancing CIL001 and CIL003.

According to the World Health Organization, more than 1.6 billion people worldwide currently live with hearing loss, a number projected to rise to 2.5 billion by 2050.

Growing Interest in Hearing Therapeutics

Cilcare said the revised agreement reflects the increasing maturity of its therapeutic pipeline and its confidence in the clinical and commercial potential of its assets.

“Re-imagining our licensing agreement with Sanofi—who will become a minority shareholder—provides strong validation of our scientific strategy and our vision of positioning hearing health as a critical pillar of global health. It is a meaningful signal, both for our programs and for the field as a whole. The agreement enhances our ability to accelerate the development of innovative therapies for millions of patients affected by hearing loss worldwide.”

–Celia Belline, Co-Founder and CEO of Cilcare

Belline also noted that hearing loss is increasingly recognized as a modifiable risk factor for dementia, reinforcing the importance of addressing hearing disorders as a broader public health priority.
