OrCam Hear, a new wearable device for people with hearing loss, was recognized this past week with a “Best of Innovation” award at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
The soon-to-be launched wearable device developed by the Israeli company, OrCam, is said to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve the performance of Bluetooth-enabled hearing aids by identifying and isolating a speaker’s voice and relaying clearer speech in real-time to wireless hearing aids.
The device utilizes a combination of lip-reading and simultaneous voice-source separation, “operating off-line and intuitively switching between speakers the listener wants to hear”.
The wireless device is connected to a string that users wear around their neck.
The OrCam Hear device works through the use of lip reading and body gestures to determine which voice you need to hear, and then switches when you turn to face a different speaker.

The company says the technology will be launching soon, but no official release date or pricing has yet been announced.
