BOULDER, COLORADO — E.A.R. has announced an exclusive collaboration with BeBird to launch three new video otoscope devices for inspecting the ear canal. The cordless tools connect to smartphones and tablets to provide high-resolution images and videos to support telemedicine and at-home ear care.
The otoscopes feature built-in 1080p cameras to give clear visuals of the ear canal. They are designed to aid hearing health professionals with appointments and procedures like cerumen (ear wax) removal and custom ear mold fittings. The companies claim the devices are more affordable and portable alternatives to traditional video otoscopes.
The new BeBird models include the Note 5 Pro Ear, M9-S Pro Ear, and X-1. The Note 5 Pro Ear enables real-time video streaming and image sharing over the internet. The M9-S Pro Ear and X-1 come with illuminated tips to improve visibility when placing ear molds and otoblocks.
According to E.A.R., the otoscopes can facilitate telemedicine by allowing providers to inspect patients’ ears remotely. They also promote at-home ear hygiene by letting users safely examine their own or their children’s ear canals.
The video otoscope kits connect wirelessly to iPhones, iPads and Android devices through WiFi. The companies tout the collaboration as a “game changer” that will have worldwide impact across hearing healthcare.
The E.A.R./BeBird models are available globally through E.A.R.’s website and retail channels. They aim to serve audiologists, hearing aid providers, industrial hearing conservation clinics, hospitals, and everyday consumers seeking improved ear care.
