FRANKFORT, KY & WASHINGTON D.C. — The Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA) has announced its endorsement of the Responsible Use of AI in Healthcare (RUAIH) guidance, developed by The Joint Commission and the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI).
The RUAIH guidance provides a high-level framework to ensure artificial intelligence (AI) is deployed responsibly in clinical, administrative, and operational settings, keeping patient safety and ethical considerations at the forefront.
The guidance outlines seven core elements essential to responsible AI integration, including:
-
Establishing AI governance structures
-
Safeguarding patient privacy and data security
-
Implementing ongoing quality monitoring
-
Encouraging voluntary and blinded reporting of AI safety-related events
-
Conducting risk and bias assessments
-
Providing education and training for healthcare providers
By aligning healthcare organizations around these practices, the RUAIH framework seeks to foster AI innovation while ensuring transparency, accountability, and the highest standards of patient care.
“This guidance provides the clarity and consistency that healthcare professionals need to responsibly adopt AI technologies,” said Dr. Amyn Amlani, President of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology.
“By encouraging innovation with the appropriate guardrails in place, the RUAIH framework protects patients while empowering providers to leverage AI’s potential to improve outcomes, reduce inefficiencies, and enhance quality of care.”
ADA has already incorporated the guidance into its newly revised ADA Audiology Practice Standards. As AI tools continue to transform diagnostics, treatment planning, and care coordination, ADA emphasizes the importance of balancing innovation with safeguards to protect patients, providers, and the integrity of healthcare systems.
