NIJMEGEN & LEIDEN, THE NETHERLANDS – Beephonix and Absolute Audio Labs (AAL) have announced a new partnership focused on joint research and development (R&D) for remote microphone technology and next-generation beamforming, specifically aimed at improving hearing accessibility for individuals with hearing loss.
BeephoniX, a spinoff of Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, is committed to solving the “cocktail party problem” using a biomimetic microphone inspired by the moving ears of bees. The Radboud University has a long history of research in auditory sciences and offers a unique, science-based approach to directionality and sound localization. Beephonix technology has already been integrated into defense industry projects and was demonstrated at CES 2025.
Absolute Audio Labs, a leading innovator in hearing enhancement and two-time CES Innovation Award winner based in Leiden, the Netherlands, will integrate its PYOUR Audio 3.0 algorithm suite and development framework into the partnership. This collaboration marks a milestone for AAL, enabling the company to share its development tools with partners for fast product development and commercial deployment.
The combined BeephoniX and AAL applications will focus on creating accessories like remote microphones that are not locked into a specific brand of hearing aids, offering flexibility to users. In addition, applications will support the latest Bluetooth® technology, including Auracast® and LE Audio, through a collaboration with Renesas®.
“The PYOUR Audio development framework from Absolute Audio Labs, combined with our technology integrated with AAL’s Advanced Noise Suppression (ANS), gives us a fast track to market access and even better performance.”
–Klaas-Jan Kakebeeke, CEO of BeephoniX
Aernout Arends of Absolute Audio Labs said, “The BeephoniX technology and the research capabilities of Radboud UMC are a great match with our technology and network. Together, we can stay on top of the market by expanding key directionality features on our PYOUR Audio platform.”
This partnership is also supported by the European Union’s “Right Hearing” project, co-funded by the regional “EFRO Oost” program.
