EDEN PRAIRIE, MINNESOTA — Starkey recently introduced Omega AI, described by the company as its most advanced hearing technology to date, featuring what it calls the industry’s first DNN 360 deep neural network-controlled directional microphone system. The technology, which is designed to provide 360-degree sound awareness, is the focus of the latest episode of Starkey’s Sound Bites podcast, hosted by Chief Hearing Health Officer Dave Fabry, Ph.D., with guest Dr. Achin Bhowmik, Starkey’s Chief Technology Officer.

Omega AI hearing aids integrate artificial intelligence into the core signal processing architecture. According to Starkey, the DNN 360 system adapts in real time in a manner intended to emulate human auditory processing, with the goal of helping wearers remain engaged in conversation while maintaining awareness of their environments.

In addition to hearing performance features, Omega AI includes:

  • Health-related tools: fall detection capabilities, Balance Builder exercises, and respiration monitoring
  • AI-based assistance: a built-in personal assistant that responds to natural voice commands and can adjust device settings or provide information
  • Durability updates: medical-grade waterproofing and extended battery performance

“This is the most significant leap in hearing technology in decades,” said Dr. Achin Bhowmik, CTO of Starkey. “With Omega AI, we’ve combined neuroscience and artificial intelligence to give patients not just better hearing, but a smarter, healthier, and more connected life.”

Starkey positions Omega AI as a continuation of its recent technology roadmap, which has included platforms such as Livio AI, Genesis AI, and Edge AI. The company notes that the full discussion of Omega AI’s development and features is available on the Sound Bites podcast.
