BLUFFDALE, UTAHListen Technologies has introduced a Trade Agreements Act (TAA)-compliant version of its ListenIR assistive listening system, expanding its infrared-based offering for projects that require adherence to federal procurement standards.

ListenIR transmits audio using infrared technology and is intended for environments where privacy is important, including courtrooms, boardrooms, medical offices, and other confidential settings.

TAA compliance and procurement access

According to the company, TAA compliance indicates that products meet standards related to performance, quality, and safety under the Trade Agreements Act. Such compliance is often required for U.S. government contracts, federally funded projects, and work in regulated sectors such as healthcare.

Listen Technologies said it is an approved vendor on the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Schedule, and that its TAA-compliant ListenIR SKUs are listed on GSA Advantage!®, the federal government’s online purchasing platform. The company said this gives federal agencies and other authorized buyers access to compliant systems through established acquisition channels and pre-negotiated pricing.

The company also directed readers to additional background information in its resource, Understanding TAA Compliance: What It Means and Why It Matters.

“As a TAA-compliant solution, ListenIR is trusted for use in government and institutional applications, meeting stringent standards for quality, security, and reliability. From large auditoriums to courtrooms to smaller spaces, ListenIR offers a secure, consistent, and clear audio experience, empowering everyone to fully engage in their surroundings with confidence.”

Products included in the TAA-compliant ListenIR line

Listen Technologies said the TAA-compliant ListenIR portfolio includes several products intended to support accessibility, security, and procurement flexibility:

  • LR-5200T-IR-P1 – ListenIR TAA Advanced Intelligent DSP IR Receiver Package 1: A receiver package designed to help customers begin or expand an infrared assistive listening system while aligning with TAA compliance requirements.
  • LT-84T-01 – ListenIR TAA 2-Channel Transmitter/Radiator Combo: A 2-channel transmitter/radiator that connects to a venue’s primary audio system and broadcasts infrared audio to iDSP receivers.
  • LS-96T-01 – ListenIR TAA Advanced iDSP System: A wireless audio system intended for environments where confidentiality, reliability, and regulatory compliance are priorities.
  • LA-384T-01 – ListenIR TAA Intelligent 4-Unit Charging Tray: A 4-unit charging tray for Listen Technologies iDSP receivers, with wall, drawer, rack shelf, and tabletop mounting options.

How ListenIR works

The ListenIR system includes transmitters, radiators, receivers, and accessories.

According to the company, the system connects to a venue’s audio source, such as a microphone or speaker. The transmitter converts the audio signal into the appropriate frequency range and sends it to one or more infrared radiators, which emit the IR signal. Users with ListenIR receivers can then hear the transmitted audio, while background noise is reduced for improved intelligibility.

Additional product information is available in the company’s resource, How ListenIR Provides a Superior Assistive Listening Experience.

Key features

Listen Technologies said the system is designed as a complete assistive listening platform with transmitters, radiators, receivers, accessories, and signage intended to help venues notify guests of system availability and support ADA and local compliance requirements.

The company also emphasized the receiver design, stating that ListenIR receivers are smaller and lighter than competing models, which may make them easier to wear, dispense, store, and maintain. The receivers use IR-transparent material intended to receive infrared light from multiple angles, allowing users to move about while maintaining signal reception.

A central feature of the system is privacy. Because infrared light does not pass through walls, ceilings, or floors, the transmitted audio remains contained within the room. The company said this makes the system suitable for settings where confidentiality is important.

Listen Technologies also noted that ListenIR receivers are interoperable with other manufacturers’ transmitters and radiators, which may help venues extend the life of an existing infrared-based system while expanding coverage.

The company said TAA compliance further broadens the system’s suitability for federal applications by aligning the products with trade and procurement requirements.

Availability

TAA-compliant ListenIR products are available now and shipping globally.

“ListenIR has always delivered exceptional sound quality, privacy, and ease of use for a variety of venues. With the addition of TAA-compliant ListenIR, integrators and customers now have a solution that meets federal procurement requirements while maintaining the performance they expect. This is one more way Listen Technologies listens and responds to the needs of venues, channel partners, and end users,” added Shaffer.
