DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA — MED-EL US has announced the consumer availability of its new Standard Pro and Micro Pro rechargeable batteries for the company’s SONNET 2 and SONNET 3 audio processors.

The new rechargeable batteries are designed to extend operating time while remaining compatible with MED-EL cochlear implants dating back to 1994, allowing many existing recipients to upgrade without requiring a new implant.

The Standard Pro battery provides up to 23 hours of use on a single charge, while the Micro Pro battery offers up to 12 hours. Both batteries feature a two-part design, recharge in up to three hours, support more than 1,100 charging cycles, and can be charged either while attached to the audio processor or separately. The charger includes magnetic alignment and LED status indicators.

According to MED-EL, backward compatibility with earlier-generation implants and the SONNET 2 processor provides an upgrade option for many existing users.

“The peace of mind from having a full day of battery life to support all of SONNET 3’s features have been fantastic,” said MED-EL recipient, Scott Murray. “I now have the freedom to wear either the RONDO 3 or the SONNET 3 without giving any thought to spare batteries.”

Extended Battery Life and Backward Compatibility

The new battery kits include child-safe battery covers, USB-C charging capabilities, magnetic alignment, and LED status indicators. MED-EL said the packaging has also been redesigned to reduce plastic use.
