Oticon has introduced Oticon Play SI, a new pediatric hearing aid family that brings together second-generation AI sound processing, 4D user-intent sensors, and updated connectivity features designed for children and teens with hearing loss.
According to the company, the new family is intended to support listening, communication, and engagement in everyday environments such as classrooms, playgrounds, and other noisy settings where children need consistent access to speech and sound.
Built on Oticon’s latest sound processing platform
Oticon Play SI is built on the company’s second-generation AI sound processing platform, which was trained on millions of sound scenes. Oticon says the system is designed to provide clearer, more natural sound while also offering up to 12 dB of noise suppression and an extended frequency bandwidth from 80 Hz to 10,000 Hz.
4D sensors aimed at changing listening needs
The hearing aid family also incorporates 4D user-intent sensors, which are designed to detect and respond to changes in a child’s listening needs in real time.1 Oticon cited recent evidence from Boys Town National Research Hospital indicating that when 4D Sensors were activated for children and teens with hearing loss ages 12 to 18, sentence recognition improved for 50% of participants and listening difficulty was reduced for 77% of participants.2

Designed for different ages and fitting needs
Oticon Play SI is available in two form factors: a miniRITE R intended for tweens and teens, and a miniBTE R available in fitting level 85 and 105 for younger children and smaller ears. The family is offered in 12 color options, while the miniBTE R also includes seven hook colors. Oticon is also offering decorative stickers intended to give children more personalization options.
Durability, connectivity, and classroom support
Oticon says the new devices are built with durability in mind, featuring an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and allergen-free materials.
The company also emphasized connectivity, describing streaming as an increasingly important part of how children learn, communicate, and engage socially. Oticon Play SI supports Auracast broadcasts through the Oticon Companion app and is compatible with iPhone. It is also designed to support Android devices using Bluetooth LE Audio, including two-way audio for hands-free calls and Fast Pair on select devices.3 In a recent company-cited study, 83% of tweens and teens said they preferred Bluetooth LE Audio connectivity over Bluetooth Classic.4
For use in educational settings, Oticon noted that Play SI is compatible with EduMic, the company’s remote microphone system for preschool and classroom use. EduMic is designed to improve access to a teacher’s voice in situations where distance and background noise may otherwise make listening more difficult. The system also includes wind noise management for outdoor use.
Charging updates
Oticon says Play SI can provide a full day of use after one hour of charging, up to four hours of use after 15 minutes of charging, and up to eight hours after 30 minutes of charging.5
