EDEN PRAIRIE, MINNESOTA — Starkey Hearing Technologies announced the appointment this week of Achin Bhowmik, PhD, as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Executive Vice President of Engineering. In this new role, Dr. Bhowmik will be responsible for leading Starkey’s research and engineering efforts.
Dr. Bhowmik is a well known authority in technology, with years of advanced research and product development experience. Prior to joining Starkey, he served as vice president and general manager of the Perceptual Computing Group at Intel Corporation. While at Intel, Dr. Bhowmik oversaw R&D, engineering, operations, and businesses in the areas of 3D sensing and interactive computing systems, computer vision and artificial intelligence, autonomous robots and drones, and immersive virtual and merged reality devices.

Dr. Bhowmik has over 200 publications, including two books and holds 34 issued patents. He is still involved in academia and research, where he continues to serve in adjunct and guest professor positions, advises graduate research, and lectures on human-computer interactions and perceptual computing technologies at the Liquid Crystal Institute of the Kent State University; Kyung Hee University, Seoul; Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar; Stanford University; and the University of California, Berkeley, where he is on the board of advisors for the Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership.
