GLENVIEW, ILLINOIS –  Hearing care retailer Beltone has announced that audiologist, and independent Beltone practice owner, Dr. Mike Sharp has acquired 19 ASI Audiology locations in Iowa and South Dakota.  Terms were not disclosed.

The ASI Audiology practice was founded in 1978 and offers hearing care services in several states. The Iowa hearing centers will now become part of the Beltone network.

Expanding Practice

Sharp first joined the Beltone network as an owner in 2020 with locations in Davenport and Clinton, Iowa and has expanded quickly.  Prior to acquiring his first Beltone practice, Sharp worked as a practitioner in a small private practice and as an educational audiologist and professor at Illinois State University.

In addition to running his Beltone practices, he teaches courses and supervises the clinic for Western Illinois University.

“Dr. Sharp brings incredible experience and value to Beltone, and to all our hearing loss patients in the Midwest. His expertise in clinical audiology combined with his passion to serve people exemplify what it means to be a Beltone owner and practitioner.  We are excited to grow our presence in Iowa and look forward to helping more patients find their way on the journey to better hearing.”

“There are many reasons I chose to work with Beltone, including brand exclusivity, marketing support, and overall guidance to help me strategically grow my business,” said Dr. Sharp.  “As an audiologist, I’ve spent years listening to practice owners talk about competition and the state of the industry. It was important to me to partner with a company invested in the future of hearing care. Beltone offers fantastic competitive advantages that merit consideration from audiologists in, or considering, private practice, because they truly care about our patients and our business.”

Sharp earned his Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Illinois State University in 2006 and his Doctor of Audiology from Illinois State University in 2009. He serves on the board of Educational Audiology Association (EAA) and as the organization’s president. He also represents EAA on the Audiology Groups Committee for ASHA (the American Speech, Language, Hearing Association.

According to the National Institute of Health, an estimated 28.8 million U.S. adults with mild to severe hearing loss could benefit from hearing aids.  Under the Beltone business model, “entrepreneurs can address this major health issue first-hand, with direct help from the company”.
