ATLANTA, GEORGIA — In an effort to boost the accessibility of hearing care services across the United States, hearing care retailer HearUSA has announced a new scholarship program in partnership with the American Academy of Audiology.

The Jill Botkin Hearing Healthcare Accessibility Scholarship will provide financial support to aspiring audiologists who are dedicated to expanding access to hearing care, particularly in underserved areas. The scholarship is named after Jill Botkin, a longtime HearUSA employee who passed away in 2023.

According to recent studies, approximately 56% of U.S. counties currently lack access to hearing care services. “This inability to access timely diagnosis, treatment, and support can significantly diminish quality of life for individuals with hearing loss,” said Gemma Gray, AuD, Senior Director of Professional Development & Retail Expansion at HearUSA.

The $5,000 scholarship grant will be awarded to a full-time audiology student enrolled in a U.S. university who has completed their first year of a Doctor of Audiology (AuD) program. The scholarship is intended to support the educational pursuits of aspiring audiologists committed to improving hearing healthcare accessibility.

“More audiologists are needed to ensure everyone with hearing loss receives the care and support they deserve, no matter where they live. That’s why we’re proud to partner with the American Academy of Audiology on a scholarship that will empower the next generation of audiologists to make a meaningful difference.”

In addition to the new scholarship, HearUSA is also investing in other initiatives to grow and support its network of hearing care providers. This includes recruitment efforts, professional development programs, and opportunities for advancement within the company.

The scholarship announcement comes as the American Academy of Audiology hosts its annual AAA 2024+HearTECH Expo in Atlanta, Georgia from April 17-20. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about HearUSA’s various efforts to address the hearing care accessibility challenge.
