WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Cochlear Implant Alliance (ACI Alliance) will bestow its prestigious 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award upon Dr. Jill B. Firszt at the upcoming CI2024 Vancouver conference.

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual’s contributions over their entire career, highlighting their work and accomplishments.

Dr. Firszt, an audiologist and researcher, holds positions as a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology and Adjunct Faculty in Audiology and Communication Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis. She serves as the Director of both the Cochlear Implant Program and the Firszt Laboratory, seamlessly integrating clinical care with research. Dr. Firszt has led as Principal Investigator on two multicenter, FDA-approved, NIH-funded studies—a distinction achieved by few in the field. Her pioneering work was acknowledged early on, as she was among the first clinician-scientists in the United States to offer cochlear implants for patients with Asymmetric Hearing Loss or Single Sided Deafness.

Beyond her research endeavors, Dr. Firszt has played a significant role in the ACI Alliance itself, serving on the Founder’s Board and as the first Treasurer of the Board of Directors. She also presented her groundbreaking work at the organization’s inaugural cochlear implant conference in 2013.
